We are delighted to announce that Prof. Manuel Bohn (Evolutionary Anthropology MPI, Leipzig) will give a talk at CogSci Colloquium on Thursday, April 11^th.

Title: Grounding socio-communicative development in everyday experience: an individual differences perspective (with an evolutionary addendum)

Abstract: Social cognition and communication are defining aspects of what it means to be human. In this talk, I want to present our research program that studies the driving forces behind socio-communicative development. Our goal is to understand how everyday social interactions influence development. To get there, we will have to overcome numerous theoretical and methodological hurdles. I will present the steps we have taken in recent years towards this goal, which include computational models of the cognitive processes underlying aspects of socio-communicative development, tasks to measure cognitive abilities on an individual level, methods to capture and quantify everyday experiences and international collaborations to probe the generalisability of findings. Much of our work is still in the early phases, so I am very much looking forward to feedback.

Dear Students,

The Junior Researcher Programme (JRP) is currently looking for Bachelor’s and Master’s students in psychology and/or behavioural sciences to become a Junior Researcher at jSchool 2024. The jSchool enables students from around the world to conduct a 13-month research project under the supervision of early-career researchers, as well as an opportunity to network and meet other students and early-career researchers.

This year’s jSchool will occur from the 7th to the 13th July 2024 in Siena, Italy. This year’s theme will be Economy of Well-Being: Harnessing Behavioral Science for Resilient Societies. Junior Researchers can select from five proposed projects and will help to develop this study idea further in their teams during jSchool and the following 13 months within the structure of the JRP. The Programme finishes with the annual JRP Conference held at Corpus Christi College at the University of Cambridge.
